Greater Toronto Hotel Association Marks 100th Anniversary with Commitment to Sustainability

GTHA Launches Legacy Food Recovery Partnership Project with La Tablée des Chefs

Toronto, ON (May 8, 2025) - In celebration of its 100th anniversary, the Greater Toronto Hotel Association (GTHA) is proud to announce a legacy partnership with La Tablée des Chefs to aid in bringing sustainable and accessible food recovery programs to hotels across the Greater Toronto Area.

“The Greater Toronto Hotel Association is shaping the future of the hotel industry, through investments in scholarships, upholding service excellence and commitment to sustainability,” said Sara Anghel, President and CEO of the Greater Toronto Hotel Association. “In partnering with La Tablée des Chefs, we are paving the way for our members to turn food surplus into food security, strengthening both our social impact and our sustainability efforts.”

The new partnership was officially announced at GTHA’s 100th Anniversary celebration today, at the historic Fairmont Royal York hotel, with the celebration itself launching the program.

“This legacy project is a reflection of our commitment to our members, the hotel sector in the Greater Toronto Area, and the communities we represent at large” continued Anghel. “The hotel industry is uniquely positioned to have a tremendous impact and be part of the solution to food waste and food insecurity in the region. This initiative will ensure good food is redirected to those who need it most.”

La Tablée des Chefs, a nationally recognized non-profit organization, leads food recovery efforts across Canada with the mission to “feed and educate.” In 2023 alone, their food recovery program successfully diverted 2.3 million meals from landfill to communities in need. Through this new partnership, GTHA is streamlining their member’s access to waste reduction initiatives, and providing reliable coordination of services. When member hotels elect into the program through GTHA, La Tablée des Chefs will coordinate the entire process, connecting participating establishments with trusted community organizations who will organize the retrieval of donations and distribute to beneficiaries on the hotel’s behalf.

This legacy initiative is just one of the many ways GTHA continues to build on a century of success, charting an ambitious course for the future and emphasizing their dedication to advancing the hotel industry through scholarships, training and education initiatives, and strong advocacy. Having served as the leading voice and advocate for Toronto’s and the Greater Toronto Area hotel industry for 100 years, the GTHA remains the premier advocate and strategic partner for the hotel industry across the Greater Toronto Area.
